Dr Bronwen Connolly during the RECOVERY-RS Trial Results Livestream, August 5th, 2021

Welcome to the 504th Critical Care Reviews Newsletter, bringing you the best critical care research and open access articles from across the medical literature for the week August 2nd to 8th.

Due to three livestream trial results sessions in 6 nights, I'm way behind with the newsletter. On Wednesday, August 4th, we had the results of the multiplatform COVID-19 anticoagulation trial; the next night the RECOVERY-RS trial was presented, and on Tuesday, August 10th, the results of the BaSICS fluid trial was delivered. The unedited videos are available, with the edited versions being added to the website over the next few days.

The highlights of this week's edition are the publications of our livestream trials - Therapeutic Anticoagulation with Heparin in Critically Ill Patients with Covid-19 & non-invasive respiratory strategies in acute respiratory failure patients with COVID-19 (BASICS will be in the next week's newsletter). There is also a guideline on the management of perioperative cardiac arrest; narrative reviews on out of hospital cardiac arrest & hemodynamics for the heart failure clinician; an editorial on hypothalamic-pituitary axis disorder; a commentary on what does "ARDS" mean during the COVID-19 pandemic; as well as correspondence on COVID-19-associated invasive pulmonary aspergillosis

If you only have time to read one article this week, try this one on targeted temperature management and cardiac arrest after the TTM-2 study.
