John A. Kellum is a globally recognised leader in critical care medicine and nephrology, based at the University of Pittsburgh, where he is Professor of Critical Care Medicine, Medicine, and Bioengineering, and a senior investigator at the CRISMA Center.

He is one of the most influential figures in acute kidney injury and sepsis research, having helped shape modern definitions and international guidelines, including Kidney Disease: Improving Global Outcomes. His work spans biomarkers, renal replacement therapy, and precision approaches to critical illness.

Alongside his academic work, he serves as Chief Medical Officer of Spectral Medical, where he is closely involved in the development of novel therapies for septic shock.

He is among the most highly cited researchers in critical care and a frequent international speaker, with a major influence on both research and clinical practice worldwide.
