Antiarrthymics in Cardiac Arrest

In 3026 adults with out-of-hospital shock-refractory ventricular fibrillation or pulseless ventricular tachycardia after at least one shock, neither amiodarone (n=974) nor lidocaine (n=993) resulted in a significantly higher rate of survival or favorable neurologic outcome than the rate with placebo (n=1059).

IABP-SHOCK II

Intraaortic Balloon Support for Myocardial Infarction with Cardiogenic Shock

In 600 patients with acute myocardial infarction induced cardiogenic shock, the addition of an intra-aortic balloon pump, in addition early revascularisation and best medical management, did not improve 30-day mortality; IABP group, 39.7% vs. control group, 41.3%; relative risk 0.96; 95% CI, 0.79 to 1.17; P=0.69.
