#CCR19 Programme for Thursday January 17th
Welcome to the 368th Critical Care Reviews Newsletter, bringing you the best critical care research and open access articles from across the medical literature over the past seven days. As you would expect, it's a relatively short issue as most journals were quiet over Christmas week.
The highlights of this week's edition are narrative reviews on whole body computed tomography in multi trauma patients & extracorporeal treatment in the management of acute poisoning; editorials on the PARAMEDIC2 trial & initiation of renal replacement therapy; as well as a commentary on Bayesian adaptive randomization in dose-finding trials.
Continuing our focus on the trials being discussed at #CCR19, this week's Topic of the Week is protective ventilation & the PreVENT trial, starting with a paper on ventilator-induced lung injury and lung mechanics in yesterday's Paper of the Day.
If you only have time to read one review article this week, try this one from Paul Young on P-values.
In other news, it is regrettable we note the premier general medical journal, the New England Journal of Medicine, has moved its correspondence section behind a paywall. As the journal publishes some of the most important research trials, this regressive step impedes access to these extremely valuable discussions for many clinicians. Publishing these trials carries a responsibility to the medical community and society at large, neither of which are served by this move.
Critical Care Reviews Meeting 2019
If you plan on attending the Critical Care Reviews Meeting this month in Titanic, Belfast, you will need to book soon, as the late rush for places has commenced. We also still have space at both the Thursday social event, in Titanic Hotel, beside Titanic, and the Friday night rooftop party, both with live music, food and drink included. For the early birds, we also have a morning run or Pilates on the Friday morning. The final programme is now out also, with both day's running order available on the Critical Care Reviews Meeting webpage.
